Large hairy evergreen twining liana to 30m, or erect shrub with pubescent branches, lenticellate stems. Simple opposite leaves fulvous-tomentose above & slightly coriaceous to 450mm x 450mm, glabrous above. Terminal cymes to 170mm long with pubescent bracts to 9mm & bracteoles to 8mm long, of 85mm x 100mm very fragrant creamy-white flowers with yellow throat or reddish, tubular hairy calyx to 10mm, corolla to 80mm wide, tube to 45mm long, lobes to 40mm, 5 petals 50mm x 20mm with hairy corolla tube 80mm long villous outside, lobes 50mm. Glabrous paired follicles to 340mm long x 20mm.

Fibre of bark used for fish nets, stem has medicinal uses.
