Large woody glabrous climber with striate young stems and old stems with ridged rough bark, coriaceous leaves to 190mm x 120mm. Yellowish male flowers in whirls on old leafless stems, inflorescence to 500mm long, yellowish sepals, 6 minute outer sepals and 6 main sepals to 2.5mm long, 6 petals 1.25mm long, infructescence a panicle on old leafless stems to 600mm long, fruit a spiny red drupe to 45mm, spines 5mm long
