Large glabrous woody twining deciduous unarmed shrub or liana to 18m, with pubescent brown stem, corky bark. Serrated or dentate coriaceous pubescent mucronate leaves to 150mm x 75mm. Terminal thyrses or panicles to 200mm long of greenish-yellow or white flowers to 3.8mm x 1.8mm, male & female unisexual flowers, 5 sepals to 0.7 x 1.5mm, 5 petals 2mm x 1mm, Fruit a bright yellow 3-valved capsule to 13mm diameter which splits to reveal scarlet or orange fleshy aril, persistent style & sepal.
Juice of bark & seeds have medicinal uses, used as animal fodder, seed oil in lamps & soap making. Medicinal uses
