Herbaceous monoecious tendril vine to 30m with scabrous angular glabrous stems. Entire or 2-3 lobed coriaceous leaves to 220mm x 280mm. Trifid to 5 parted tendrils to 250mm long. Inflorescence with bracts. Racemes of white to yellow-green fragrant flowers, fringed at margin, green calyx. White male flowers in axillary fascicles, sepals to 5.5mm x 1mm, petals to 5mm x 3mm. Female flowers whitish-green in axillary racemes of 2-4, sepals to 2mm x 1mm, petals to 12mm x 6mm. Glabrescent fruits maturing red to 60mm x 45mm.
Medicinal uses of seeds, edible fruit.
