Sometimes scandent shrub or tree to 6m. Glabrescent striate branchlets. Coriaceous leaves to 200mm x 100mm, glabrous above & puberulent beneath. Terminal or axillary panicles of 50 to 175 flowers, with subtending bracts green & red to 11mmx 4.5mm, bracteoles to 4mm x 2.5mm. Flowers to 12.5mm long, green with yellow-green tips becoming red with age, calyx to 5mm, glabrous calyx tube to 2.5mm long with lobesto 1.8mm x 2.8mm, green corolla becoming yellowish-green eventually tinged red to 12.5mm x 8mm with lobes 1mm long. Fruit red or pink, somewhat yellow
