Evergreen scrambling unarmed shrub or small tree with 4-angled young branchlets. Leaves to 90mm x 50mm, glabrous above. Flowers in axillary much-forked cymes to 30mm across, small white-cream flowers, 3mm diameter. Fruit ovoid to 8mmx 4.5mm, ridged lengthwise, purple-black when ripe.

Fruit edible but not pleasant, bark has medicinal uses
