Tall woody armed rambling shrub, scandent to 10m or trailing large spiny shrub with glabrescent zigzag branchlets and angular stems, recurved thorns to 6mm long. Mucronate leaves glabrescent above, velvety beneath to 180mm x 90mm. Axillary inflorescences to 6 flowers, white sometimes yellowish white flowers aging pink to 50mm diameter with long purple stamens, velvety sepals, outer sepals to 11mm x 9mm, inner ones to 10mm x 7mm, 4 villous petals to 16mm x 5mm. Coriaceous-woody oblong capsule orange or red to purplish red 50mm x 40mm.
