Glabrous shrub, small tree or rarely spiny climber to 10m with glabrescent zigzag branchlets, thorns to 7mm long. Prickly coriaceous glabrous leaves to 240mm x 125mm. Axillary, terminal or supra-axillary inflorescence to 7 flowers, white or sometimes marked yellow or purple flowers to 21 mm, sepals 13mm x 5.5mm glabrous outside, puberulous inside with hairy margins, white or yellow aging red, brown or dark violet petals to 25mm x 7mm , glabrous outside, purple & pubescent inside. Woody-coriaceous fruit tan or red to 75mm x 45mm.
