Climber with stout stems. Leaves to 1.5m long armed with recurved spines, leaflets to 600mm x 40mm. Male spadix with spikelets to 25mm long, female spadix with longer spikes. Flowers to 6mm long with 3-lobed calyx. Fruit 20mm diameter with long beak.
