Solitary climbing rattan palm, scandent stems to 15m with sheaths to 60mm diameter. Spiny leaf sheaths with blackish spines to 60mm long. Spines on stems in overlapping paired spirals. Armed leaves to 3m long plus 1m cirrus, 45-60 pairs of leaflets, leaflets to 450mm x 23mm with bristly margins & veins. Female spadix to 2m long with spiny margins. Green to red-brown fruits to 15mm diameter with a shot beak.
