Climber. Stem sheath armed wth spines to 40mm long. Leaves to 1.8m long with clawed cirrus at end. Lreaflets to 300mm x 10mm, bristly above. Male spadix to 550mm long, flowering panicle to 280mm long, spikelets to 12mm long with 3-4 flowers each side, male flowers 5mm long.
