Robust clustering dioecious rattan, stems climbing to 15m. Leaf sheaths covered with reddish-brown indumentum & armed with pale yellowish spines to 40mm long. Leaf to 3m long including 2m cirrus, cirrus armed with grapnel spines, leaflets to 85 per side coriaceous glabrous to sparsely bristly above with short bristles on margins, bristles to 2mm long beneath, basal leaflets to 150mm x 8mm, mid laminar leaflets to 320mm x 27mm tips often with brittle mucrone 25mm long, apical leaflets to 250mm x 10mm. Erect staminate inflorescence to 700mm long covered with indumentum & spines to 15mm long, with bracts subtending inflorescence, staminate flower to 6mm x 3mm with 3-lobed greenish calyx with tube to 3mm, triangular lobes to 1.5mm, yellowish-brown corolla with 3 petals 5mm x 3mm. Pistillate inflorescence similar to staminate with bracts to 6mm, pistillate flower to 8mm x 4mm, calyx tube to 4mm with 3 triangular lobes 2mm x 2.5mm, corolla tube to 2mm with 3 petals 4mm x 3mm.
