Solitary climbing rattan palm with scandent stems to 25m. Stem sheaths with spines to 25mm x 8mm. Straw-coloured leaf sheaths with spines to 20mm long. Flagellum to 3.5m long. Leaves to 5m, leaflets to 500mm x 40mm armed with bristles. Inflorescence to 3m long with bracts armed with pale black-tipped spines. Female spadix to 250mm long, flowers to 7.5mm long. Fruit to 30mm x 25mm with straw-coloured scales.
