Climbing palm to 8m. Sheaths with spines to 70mm, to 160mm around mouth. Spiny leaves to 4m with cirrus to 600mm long, 35 leaflets per side, yellow-green segments 450mm long x 30mm with bristly margins. Inflorescence to 500mm long, male rachillae to 80mm long, female rachillae to 120mm long. Infructescence to 800mm long with spathes to 200mm long, red-brown fruit 20mm x 12mm with short beak.

Medium quality cane.
