Solitary rattan climbing palm to 20m. Leaf sheath to 150mm long with black spines to 40mm long, spines around sheath mouth to 100mm long. Spiny leaves to 3m long + 1m cirrus, long yellowish or black spines on margins, up to 40 bristly or spiny leaf segments per side, to 600mm x 37mm, cirrus to 1m long. Male spadix to 600mm with bracts armed with hair-like spines & female spadix 1000mm long with spathes, first spathe 130mm long, second 300mm x 27mm, female flower 8mm long with calyx 4mm x 4mm. Brownish fruits 24mm x 33mm.
