Solitary or clustering rattan climbing palm, tufted stems to 15m. Hairy leaf sheaths with large spines & claws. Leaves to 1.25m, hairy leaflets to 240mm x 15mm, 20-25 leaflets per side, bristly above & hairy beneath. ONf;orescence to 700mm long, scabrid spadices, female spadix 1m long divided into 4 branches to 180mm long. Fruit to 16mm x 8mm with straw-coloured scales.
