Robust thicket-forming rattan climbing palm, scandent stems to 15m. Densely bristly leaf sheaths with spines to 35mm, spines around leaf-sheath mouth to 6mm. Leaves to 4.5m long with 2m long cirrus at end, margins with spines to 30mm. 70+ leaflets per side, leaflets to 400mm x 40mm bristly on lower surface & margins. Inflorescence to 1.5m long, female spadix to 500mm long,female rachillae to 100mm long, male spadix larger, male rachillae to 20mm long. Fruit to 10mm diameter with scales.
