Climbing rattan palm, scandent stem to 20m. Striate leaf sheaths with spines to 15mm long. Leaves to 1.5m long with up tp 40 leaflets per side, with solitary spines & claws, longest leaflets to 500mm x 25mm bristly above. Female spadix with 2-3 branches terminating in long clawed appendix to 4m, bracts with relexed thorns, branches to 250mm in male, 500mm in female. Fruit 12mm x 6mm with pale scales.

Used for tying timbers in construction
