Simple-tendril climber to 4m, fleshy caudiciform root. Dentate scabrous leaves to 62mm x 50mm, dotted beneath, somewhat 5-lobed, wrinkled above, hispid beneath. Dioecious, racemes of yellowish or greenish-white flowers, staminate flowers white tinged green with darker greenish nerves. Globose fruits to 30mm diameter, dark green with paler stripes, maturing orange-yellow.
