Strong-growing scrambling or climbing vinelike evergreen spiny scandent shrub. Puberulent or glabrate leaves 100mm x 55mm. Terminal or axillary panicles or cymes of glabrous 60mm purple flower bracts, rarely whitish, white to cream flowers 25mm long with green tube. Climbs with curved thorns to 12mm long. Fruit an anthocarp to 15mm x 5mm with 5 angles.
