Rhizomatous twiner to 4m. Glabrous leaves to 100mm long. Umbels to 75mm long, 15mm crimson or purple-red flowers greenish at tips, 6 petals to 20mm long, rarely white. Fruit capsule to 10mm with persistent style.
Root tubers edible.
