Extensive herbaceous scabrous climber with simple tendrils, grooved angled stems developing a thin papery brown bark. Serrate or sinuate-serrate denticulate leaves to 90m x 130mm,scabrid both surfaces with 3 or rarely 5 lobes with stipuloid bracts to 20mm x 20mm. Minute axillary inflorescences with 12mm bracts of male & female yellow flowers, monoecious, male racemes of 3-20 flowers with bracts to 3mm long, yellowish petals to 1.5mm x 1mm, solitary female flowers with petals to 2mm long. Bright red fleshy fruits to 15mm diameter
