Very spiny large woody liana to 25m, scrambling shrub or tree with densely grey or brown pubescence, recurved yellowish prickles on stems & rachis to 5mm long. Bipinnate paripinnate spiny leaves to 400mm long with yellowish-brown tomentum, upper surface dull, scattered pubescence beneath, 9 pairs leaflets to 22mm x 11mm. Terminal & axillary spiny glabrescent erect racemes to 350mm long x 100mm with bracts to 8mm x 2.5mm, 30mm diameter yellow spotted or striped red pubescent cup-shaped flowers with 5 sepals to 10mm x 5mm villous outside spotted white, petals to 15mm x 10mm. Brown glabrous woody legume 150mm long x 30mm with beaked pod or with keel.
