Annual hairy herbaceous simple, bifid or trifid tendril climber or creeper with angular brown hairy stems. 5-9 lobed scabrous denticulate leaves slightly strigose to 225mm x 145mm. Axillary monoecious male flowers solitary yellow flowers to 100mm with 5 sepals to 8mm & 5 yellow petals, female flowers solitary. 600mm x 360mm white fleshy villous pubescent mealy fruit, musky scent.

Large fruits need strong supports, may be toxic

Cultivated for fruits eaten fresh & pickled & seed eaten
