Woody vine to 4m or armed scandent shrub with aculeate tomentulose branches. Serrulate leaves to 100mm x 50mm, scabrous above, tomentulose beneath. 5mm long purple flowers in umbels to 7 flowers, calyx 5mm long, petals 5mm long. Purple to black spiny 15mm diameter fruit, prickles 3mm long.
