Thorny liana to 3m with entire or dentate mucronate leaves to 100mm x 40mm. Purple-brown flowers, calyx green outside, violet-brown inside, sepals 3mm long, yellowish corolla, petal claw 1mm long, stout glabrous orange petal appendage to 8mm long. Green fruit.
