Annual monecious prostrate or climbing herbaceous tendril vine with perennial rootstock, scabrid stems to 2.5m, simple tendrils. dentate, 3-5 lobed leaves to 50mm x 50mm. Male flowers to 3.5mm long, calyx lobes to 1.5mm long, corolla lobes to 3mm x 2mm. Female flowers to 3.5mm long, calyx lobes to 2mm long, yellow corolla lobes to 6mm x 4mm, corolla tube to 3.5mm diameter. Longitudinally ribbed glabrescent yellow0green fruit to 35mm x 20mm.
