Scrambling or twining hermaphroditic perennial evergreen semi-woody wiry prickly vine to 2m, with fern-like fronds, glabrous scale-like leaves (cladodes) to 11mm long, pungent leaf spurs or needle-like phyloclades 6mm long. Axillary solitary or clusters of 7mm white flowers & fruit a berry red maturing purple-black to 7mm diameter
