Climbing bamboo, purple scabrous glabrous culms to 6m. Leaves to 100mm x 13mm. Racemes to 90mm long, reddish flowers, spikelets to 40mm long, lower glumes to 4.5mm long, upper glumes to 6mm long, red or purple fertile lemma to 13mm long.
