Climbing glabrous evergreen shrub, tree or liana to 10m with glabrescent lenticellate branches. Glabrous coriaceous leaves to 250mm x 100mm. Solitary to 4-flowers leaf-opposed inflorescences with hooked peduncle & bract to 2mm x 1mm, 40mm diameter ivory to brown very fragrant flowers, 6 petals reddish-brown with rusty tomentum, outer petals to 50mm x 16mm, inner peal to 42mm x 12mm, green sepals villou to 10mm x 8mm. Carpels walnut-sized, 50mm long x 25mm glabrous, fragrant, yellow.

Scented blooms harvested for essential oils. Widely cultivated. Fruit used in medicine, edible fruit
