Twining liana with woody stems & corky bark with smell of cough tablets. Petole-twining glabrous leaves to 120mm x 130mm. Few-flowered racemes with minute bracts, curved flowers with 3 tepals, lobes to 30mm x 55mm, utricle to 20mm x 13mm. Glabrous capsule to 90mm long.
Possibly carcinogenic & mutagenic with prolonged use.
