Scandent woody stemmed vine or herb with pilose stems. Leaves to 65mm x 25mm, glabrous above sparsley hairy on veins & pilose beneath. Panicles of dark purple flowers, pistillate heads 4mm long with greenish-white to dark purple corollas 1.9mm long, staminate heads 4mm long with 11-16 disc flowers. Achenes to 1.2mm long.
