Glabrous prickly scandent shrub or liana to 10m+ with tri- or quadripinnate leaves to 1500mm long with leaflets to 140mm x 50mm, prickly veins sometimes, margins spinulose-denticulate, glabrous above with a few recurved spines. Terminal spiny panicles to 1m long with side branches to 500mm long subtended by lanceolate bracts to 10mm long, whitish or yellowish slightly fragrant flowers, calyx 3mm long with 5-6 teeth, 5-6 petals 3mm x 1.5mm. 5-6 ridged purple to blue-black fleshy fruit 5mm long crowned with persistent style.
