Semi-deciduous slightly woody perennial pubescent or glabrate tendril climber with angular stems. Leaves puberulent above, puberulent or glabrous beneath to 100mm long. 20mm long pink to red or white flowers in axillary racemes on tendrils or terminal panicles to 200mm long, double flowered forms have been recorded. Outer pink sepals to 10mm long. Fruit a nut to 15mm long, achenes strongly 3-angled to 10mm long.

Can become a weed, widely naturalised

Root tubers edible.
