Large herbaceous liane, glabrous or with scattered hairs, fleshy root with stem to 30m. Leaves with 3-5 toothed leafletsm glabrous above & puberulous on nerves beneath. Male flowers in 230mm long raceme with 2 bracteoles, 50mm diameter, pinkish-purple with green stripe near base, fringed petals, female larger to 100mm diameter. Green fleshy fruits to 900mm long x 200mm, 10-ribbed to 27k.

Cultivated for edible fruits & seeds. Oil also extracted from seeds, medicinal uses.
