Prickly or unarmed tree, scandent shrub or liana to 45m with glabrous branchlets armed with 8mm recurved prickles, glabrous stems with lenticels. Bipinnate leaves with 3-10 pairs of leaflets to 20mm x 10mm, sometimes slightly mucronate, prickles at base of petiole. Terminal or axillary panicle to 150mm long of white or greenish-white flowers to 4mm, calyx 1mm long with triangular teeth to 2mm, corolla to 6mm long villous outside, fruit a flat glabrous reddish to brown pod to 200mm x 40mm
