Glabrous herbaceous canopy liana to 30m, stems woody & striate. Glabrous leaves entire to 5-lobed to 250mm x 190mm. Axillary cymes to 200mm long with bracts and bracteoles to 1.5mm and tendrils to 250mm, up to 40 flowers in male inflorescence, 1-8 flowers in females, red flowers. Greenish or white male flowers to 30mm x 7.5mm including 15mm long stipe, 4mm filaments, male calyx to 9mm long with triangular lobes to 3mm long, 5 petals to 4mm x 2.5mm. Female flowers to 22mm x 6mm including 10mm long stipe, calyx tube to 13mm with lobes to 2.5mm, petals to 4mm x 1mm. Coriaceous fruit red-orange to deep red to 130mm x 45mm.

Medicinal uses, poison for hunting. Aril sometimes sweet and edible.
