Erect, prostrate or climbing herb or shrub to 1.5m with a tuberous root. . 3-7 lobed or pinnatifid mucronate leaves to 170mm x 110mm. 1-10 flowered male inflorescence, 1-3 flowered female inflorescence with tendrils to 100mm long, bracts & bracteoles to 8mm. Green to yellow flowers with purple-red spots. Male flowers including 4.5mm stipe to 50mm x 6.5 mm, calyx tube to 45mm long, woolly-fimbriate lobes to 6mm long, woolly fringed petals to 11mm x 0.75m. Female flowers to 35mm x 9mm including 3mm long stipe, calyx tube to 25mm, woolly fimbriate lobes to 6mm, petals to 9mm x 0.25mm. Leathery red or yellow-green fruit to 50mm x 45mm.

Poisonous

Medicinal uses, juice of fruit used to poison hyenas.
