Glabrous scandent herbaceous tendril vine to 10m with striate stems. Glabrous entire leaves to 150mm x 95mm. Few-flowered axillary cymes to 60mm long with up to 30 flowers in male, 2-5 flowers in female, tendrils to 100mm, trifid in juvenile forms ending in adhesive discs and triangular bracts and bracteoles to 1mm. Flowers greenish-yellow ageing purple-red spotted. Male flowers to 18mm x 3mm including 10mm long stipe, calyx tube to 7mm, calyx lobes to 1.25mm, triangular petals to 1.25mm, filaments to 3mm. Female flowers to 10mm x 3mm including 3mm long stipe, calyx tube to 4.5mm long with 1mm triangular calyx lobes and 1.25mm petals. Glabrous coriaceous woody red fruit to 80mm x 50mm.

Fleshy arils edible.
