Scandent tendril climber to 20m with angular corky prickly or unarmed stems, simple or forked thorns on the angles to 20mm. Leafless during most of year. Scabrous 3-7 lobed leaves to 160mm x 110mm, lobes to 30mm. Axillary fascicles 100mm long, 2-40 flowered in male, 1-3 flowered in female, tendrils to 100mm long, bracts & bracteoles to 2mm. Male flowers including 4mm long stipe to 18mm x 5mm, calyxlobes to 12mm, petals to 9mm x 2mm. Female flowers including 1mm stipe to 12mm x 3mm,calyx lobes to 10mm, petals to 4mm x 2mm. Coriaceous fruit a capsule to 20mm diameter.
